According to NYC DOT’s January 2026 traffic safety report , the Bronx posted the steepest percentage fatality decline of any borough in 2025 — traffic deaths fell 39%, from 54 in 2024 to 33 in 2025. That progress reflects real investment: DOT has been building out a connected bike network in areas of the Bronx that previously lacked it, including four miles of new protected bike lanes along Bronxdale Avenue, Hunts Point Avenue, Rosedale Avenue, and Soundview Avenue, along with the ongoing Harlem River Greenway project. Citywide, DOT has found that protected bike lanes are associated with an 18.1% reduction in deaths and serious injuries for all road users.
